Mono is a cross platform, open source .NET development framework.

While there are plug-ins for Visual Studio to make your .NET applications Mono-compatible, Monodevelop is the primary Mono development IDE and today (9/9/2009) they announce that they are releasing the Windows version of Monodevelop.

    What's new in MonoDevelop 2.2
Some of the recent updates include
    1. Windows Support
    2. Mac Support
    3. Project Management
    4. Text Editor
    5. Refactoring
    6. Debugger
    7. ASP.NET MVC Add-in
    8. IPhone Add-in
    9. Moonlight Add-in
    10. Python Binding
    11. Version Control

So now .NET (and C# especially) developers can develop using their beloved .NET knowledge regardless of whether they are running Windows, OS X or Linux which can run on any of these platforms (like develop on a Mac and distribute ASP.NET on a Linux web server, etc.)! Exciting times!
