    I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 from within 9.10. After restarting I get the log-in prompt, but I can't get it to accept any keyboard input, so I can't enter the password. I can click on the Log In button with the mouse, but with no password entered, that doesn't get me logged in. I'm running within a virtual machine (using VMware Workstation).

    I see someone on the Ubuntu forums had a similar problem: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1468162. The suggestion was to do a clean install. Anybody have any ideas short of that?

    Yes, see the following bug report for a work around:
    <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/548891">https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/548891</a><!-- m -->

    Basically, you have to login using the on-screen keyboard and run sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup to reconfigure the console setup.

    HTH.
